The Greatest Irish SEO Competition
Damien Mulley has only gone and started an SEO competition to find who the greatest SEO of them all is. These competitions are always a great laugh among people who share interest in SEO but it’s also a great way to test new methods on reaching top ranks for a site.
The criteria is very straight forward with very little restrictions on what we can actually do to win. You can get a list of rules under Mulley’s post.
The goal
By 3pm on 1st December have a new domain be in #1 position on Google.ie for the key term geansai gorm – simple!
At the moment there are very few results for the term geansai gorm so it will be interesting to see how the scuffle pans out over the next 4 weeks. 24 hours in and things are already starting to take shape.
It’s interesting to see what people are doing or more importantly, what they aren’t doing. Someone has already caught my eye by doing some domination tactics, I can take this bastard and he’s going down!
If you decide to take part then best of luck!
FYI: If you leave a comment on this blog linking to a geansai gorm site or use its keywords, I will remove your link and insert my own – fair game.

Now that’s what I want to see!
I’m just new in this crazy world of the SEOs so I hope you won’t delete my message. This blog caught my eye and so I read it to the end. How I wish I could join the contest but I have prior arrangements so I hope this contest is a yearly event. Expect me next year, buddies! Thanks for making me laugh:D
And who would this be ?
It’s my aim to have the nicest looking blue jumper site out there !
p
Should be a bit of fun
Ah Paul now that would be telling. I’ve been thinking about how to centre a site around geansai gorm. Its not the easiest of topics.
Have to agree there Jason, a bit of craic.
What are domination tactics?
John
When I checked that SERP a few days ago there were only 50 something odd results.
Up to 250 now. I’m nearly half tempted…
@John its methods used to raise your online profile although it can be risky depending on hows it done.
@Richard Its interesting to see the bounces of the SERP. Have to admit they are some really good entries and I’m half tempted to step back this point due to it being time consuming…..honestly
Every so often something like this comes along and it really makes me grin and get semi excited.
However I think to do this right it’ll take a good bit of effort (as you said its time consuming).
(I’m currently hoping to prove myself wrong and that back links alone will suffice) … its a great risk free way though to feck about with SEO.
I’ve been trying to rank a domain for a bit in a highly contested market and damn its hard. An old adage its not what you know … (its not what you link but who links you)
The worst thing I think though will be those “SEO” companies that end up taking part and end up failing miserably (I can dream). I think ranking for keywords is something that takes time and doesn’t just happen in the space of a month.
(Maybe I’m crazy though … hmmmm maybe ..
)
Probably the lack of existing pages however will make things easier (short term) .. I pity the poor bastard in the future who decides to call his company geansai gorm though
I should have approved your comment a lot sooner James, sorry bout that.
Funny one on a company in the future called geansai gorm, that’s out the door for sure.
